The battle to purify American sex-lives

Follow to link to the article by clicking on the title of this post.

Having ideals is a nice thing, but not when it blinds you from the reality of living on Earth.
Then you simply become plainly irresponsible!
It is a bit like throwing somebody from a 100m high building and tell the person: "If you believe you can fly, you will!" It works great in the Matrix (eventhough not even Neo made it on the first try), but in the real world the law of physics are unbendable.

My 2 favorite quotes from the article:
- A typical American boy hits puberty in his early teens but does not marry until he is 27. (The median age for women is 25.) Remaining chaste for the entire decade during which sexual desire is at its peak requires extraordinary willpower. For most youngsters, the fear of disease is not a sufficient motivation.
- What about homosexuals, though, who cannot legally marry in any American state bar Massachusetts? On health grounds, one would surely favour strict monogamy for gays. But no. For them, says Ms Hayes, “We promote the healthy message of abstinence.” Period.

Extremism is never the answer. Pragmatism is much closer to it!

  • This seems based on 'having sex is evil' concept. lets see..

    Religion aspect:
    - having sex is pleasurable by biology.
    - if you believe god mades us the way we are, you believe he made sex pleasurable.
=> so such a god wont think 'having sex is evil'

    Health aspect:
    - having sex can damage your health via aids etc...
    - having sex may lead to pregnantcy. If the parents are unprepared, it will be hard for them and the child.
=> certainly true. but here the issue is condoms and contraception, not having sex
    or not.

    Power play:
    - sex is a very powerfull instinct, Hard or impossible to stop (e.g. a male teenager in spring). The human race is based on its ability to reproduce and the power of this instinct ensured its survival.
    - The one able to control such powerfull instinct in others, will have tremendous influence on them.

There is a large and long-lasting mouvement based on the assumption 'having sex is evil'. They try to reduce the amount of sex people have. It can't be based on health or religion, despite the typical claim, and provide them great influence on people who adopt their system.

People gaining control over people based on wrong claims, doesnt seems like 'good people' to me.
